THE PROBLEM OF PRESERVING EXPRESSIVENESS IN TRANSLATION: THE CASE OF ADVERBIAL PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS

Abstract

This article examines the problem of preserving expressiveness in the translation of adverbial idiomatic units. Phraseological expressions play a vital role in representing a nation’s worldview, cultural identity, and emotional perception of reality. They enrich language through imagery, stylistic coloring, and emotional depth, making their accurate translation a complex yet essential task. In the process of translation, it is crucial not only to render the literal meaning of such expressions but also to maintain their stylistic tone and expressive power. The study presents a comparative analysis of adverbial idioms in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English, identifying key semantic and stylistic differences as well as contextual patterns of usage. The main objective of the article is to determine effective linguistic mechanisms for preserving expressiveness and to explore strategies that allow translators to convey emotional and cultural nuances. Maintaining expressivity does not require a literal correspondence from the translator, but a creative approach that includes equivalent, periphrastic, and compensatory methods. The results of the study contribute to a deeper understanding of interlanguage correspondences and emphasize the importance of cultural adaptation when translating phraseological units.
